Karl is a general dentist with an interest in digital dentistry and implantology. He qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2010 and completed a Masters in Dental Implantology with distinction in 2017.
Karl owns Smiles in Tandem, a climate conscious dental practice in Huddersfield with his wife Marisa, a psychotherapist with the aim of caring for both patients dental and mental wellbeing, in tandem. Smiles in Tandem have attained the Silver award on the FDI Sustainability in Dentistry programme and was recently awarded Climate Leader status by Zerobees for their significant reduction in carbon footprint and their commitment to further improvements.
With a passion for inspiring others with his enthusiasm for all things dental, Karl is a mentor and lecturer on the Masters in Dental Implantology programme at ICE with the University of Salford. He is also an active member of the ADI and has multiple scientific publications in the field of implant dentistry.
In 2023 he wrote and published the personal development book In The Loupe: The Secrets to Finding a Passion in Dentistry, the sales of which raised over £2000 for Confidental, a charity who support dentists and their teams in times of need.
Karl is as passionate about his life outside of dentistry as he is inside it, with a young family and a long list of hobbies and interests, the latest is as the lead singer of a rock band.
Dr. Ali Nankali holds the distinguished position of Clinical Reader in Digital Dentistry at the Teaching and Innovation (Adult Oral Health) Centre, Barts and The London Medical and Dental School.
In 1998, he developed a pronounced interest in Restorative Dentistry, initiating comprehensive research on the application of post and cores. As a result of his investigative efforts, Dr. Nankali introduced several pioneering inventions to the Scientific Board of the Orthopaedic and Implant Department at NMU. Among these innovations were the Nankali Post System, Nankali bur, and groundbreaking classifications.
In recognition of his academic excellence, Dr. Nankali was conferred a PhD by the National Medical University (NMU) in Kiev, Ukraine, in 2004. Subsequently, he earned the title of Specialist/Consultant in Prosthodontics. His background in engineering, combined with his clinical expertise in Prosthetics and Maxillofacial practices, has enabled him to produce seminal research on the distribution of masticatory force and the mechanical resilience of dental hard tissues. These achievements have solidified his reputation in the scientific domain.
Currently, Dr. Nankali's professional engagements largely revolve around mentoring postgraduate and PhD candidates. He also consistently leads CPD sessions and other specialised courses.

I am an Assistant Practitioner in Radiotherapy with a strong passion for healthcare innovation and sustainability. Alongside my professional role, I have received national recognition for my achievements, including being named the UK’s number one apprentice, and have co-authored governance and policy documents within the healthcare sector. I am a third year dental student at Barts and the London with 5k followers on TikTok. I am passionate about educative content and have a series called 'Dental News' where I frequently talk about the more political facets of dentistry, including things like the climate impact of dentistry, sustainable healthcare strategies and how the circular economy fits within that. With a natural passion about climate change through personal research and volunteering work and a passion for dentistry, it makes sense to combine the two. My biggest goal is to increase my platform and in turn, spread the word about these issues. My videos on healthcare emissions, mismanagement of NHS dentistry and inclusion within the dental school application process have amassed upwards of 60K views, which has spurred me to continue speaking up about things many 'dentfluencers' do not and create a wider conversation about them so more action can be made.

I am a first-year dental student at Cardiff University with a strong interest in integrating sustainability into healthcare. My passion for eco-conscious practice began after an inspiring talk on sustainable practice during sixth form, which led me to research sustainable healthcare solutions in depth. This became a key talking point in my dental school interviews, where I expressed my commitment to reducing environmental impact within dentistry. Working on clinics made me realise how much plastic waste the dental community is producing and how it can have a bad impact on the planet. As a passionate dental student, I’m always seeking ways to contribute to sustainable practices in dentistry, hence why I want to join your community and spread the word. My name is Ethan, and I am a 3rd year dental student who has just entered the clinical years of the BDS degree. After spending time on clinic, one of the first things I noticed was the amount of plastic waste generated from each procedure. Although infection control is a number one priority, I believe there must be a way to reduce the amount of wastage produced by a dental appointment. This was one of a couple of reasons why I underwent some training hosted by Newcastle University;Campaigning for Social Change. I believe this training has introduced me to the skills required to target groups of people in order to create change.I came across HyGe whilst researching potential methods to reduce waste within a dental environment. Currently, we use packets of wipes in order to disinfect the patient's surroundings.
